What Happens When You Should Be a Crazy Cat Lady, But You’re Allergic to Cats?

You find another pet to overdo it with of course!

When I started dating my (now ex) husband, I had 4 cats. I was allergic to cats, but didn’t know it.

He knew he was allergic right away.

I rehomed three of the cats and kept one. I kept her on the porch, which was a huge heated porch that ran one length and one width of the house, so it was a lot of space (we had two office areas out there, and eventually an office and bedroom). I was working on my master's degree at that point, and the computer was out on the porch, so I spent quite a bit of time out there with my cat. I became painfully aware that my perpetual runny nose and itchy eyes were not normal, and only happened while I was on the porch working and spending time with my cat. My symptoms became progressively worse, and I started getting hives and breathing problems. With much remorse, I found a home for my last kitty.

Then we got dogs. I never felt the same way about dogs. They were nice to have, and I enjoyed them, but I didn’t have as strong of a connection to the dogs. Until we got a little mini beagle/fox terrier mix, named Snoopy, in 2016. He was really for my ex-husband, but as I did all the care, Snoopy bonded with me, and I bonded with…
